We are a dedicated charity with a rich history of supporting and championing agriculture throughout Nottinghamshire and the broader East Midlands region.

The Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and the rural economy in Newark and Nottinghamshire for over two centuries since its formation in 1799.

Our history

Our agricultural legacy

Since its inception in 1799, NNAS has continuously supported and championed the local farming community through educational initiatives, events, and grants.

This longstanding commitment has helped shape and sustain Nottinghamshire’s agricultural heritage, making the NNAS a cornerstone of agricultural progress throughout its rich history.

1799

The Newark Agricultural Society was formed in 1799 making it the third oldest society in the country

1868

The society renames to the Newark & District Show Society and hosts the first Newark Show

1958

The society amalgamated with the Nottinghamshire Society becoming the Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society

1989

The Newark Show is renamed as the Nottinghamshire County Show

1993

A Fire engulfed the members pavilion and much of the Society’s office accommodation

1994

A new brick built members pavilion, The Sir Stuart Goodwin Pavilion, is erected and work started on a new building called ‘The Cedric Ford Pavilion’ after the President of that year

2003

The first Vintage Tractor & Heritage Show is held

2014

The first Midlands Machinery Show is held

We aim to highlight the diverse and rewarding opportunities available within our vibrant sector whilst showcasing the talent, innovation and hard work of the individuals within it.

We also organise agricultural shows and events to celebrate the very best of Nottinghamshire’s farming, food, and countryside communities.
